Sleep apnea's close association with serious health conditions, especially cardiovascular disease, has raised concern that untreated sleep apnea is a substantial but underappreciated public health threat.
Clinical studies have shown that obstructive sleep apnea can occur in men, women and children of all ages and sizes. While diagnoses tend to be more prevalent among men, studies have shown that women are less likely to be evaluated for sleep apnea, leading to lower diagnosis rates.
